In Memoriam: Joseph Pozell
Every work day I brave M Street traffic, which might be some of the most dangerous traffic in the city. I've gotten so used to it that I've learned how to maneuver my car around the confused newcomers and crazy taxi drivers with ease. Today, though, something was different. Today, a new yellow sign caught my eye: "Drive with Care," it said. "What a great message," I thought. Then my eyes moved to the white sign below it: "In memory of Officer Joe Pozell." How fitting, I thought and teared up, remembering the man who died while trying to help people like me make it through the intersection of Wisconsin and M safely.
Ten minutes later, I was in my office and on my computer. I wanted to find out more about the sign so I googled "Joseph Pozell." No word about the sign, but I did come across an interesting page about Pozell that included the date he was struck by an SUV in Georgetown. May 14, 2005. I can't believe it's already been a year.
