Day 20: Quick thoughts on India

Hello from New Delhi! Quick thoughts:

  • I really wish I had gotten some sleep on the plane. I had the cutest little Indian 5(ish)-year-old next to me. Problem was he kept squirming while he was awake and hitting me when he was asleep. The other problem... the man behind me who kept bumping my seat and the people in front of me who woke up way too early and were LOUD! Oh well.

  • I got the oldest unairconditioned taxi in the world on my way from the airport. The driver popped the hood and fiddled with some wires to get it to start. It had no seatbelts in the back and the doors didn't lock. My friend tells me it was probably an Ambassador, which she hasn't ridden in since 1996 or so (the picture above is of a much less beaten up version of my taxi). My favorite part of the ride: watching the man on the motorcycle next to us who was protecting his hair (or his turban) from the rain with a pink plastic bag. I resisted the urge to take a picture.

  • I'm writing this while servants are cleaning the house around me. It's weird to have servants. I'm having flashbacks to the 3 months I lived in Kathmandu, Nepal when I was 7 or 8.
