Moral Dilemma

The following are emails from me to several friends yesterday. I received no responses to the messages when I needed them but the following helps explain the story of the missing Euros.

July 30, 10:05 am
Hello ladies,
This morning I switched lockers at my hostel. In my new locker, I found a bag with 250 Euros and 10 Pounds. The Swedish girl who was using the locker yesterday took a train to Poland (or possibly Germany) this morning. I split the money with another man in my hostel room but we decided that we would wait to see if the girls call or return for the money before we spend it. So, what do you think? Should I keep the money? Should I tell the hostel? Suggestions?

I felt way too guilty just taking the money so I asked the front desk of the hostel. The man at the front desk said that two girls had left their luggage so it may be them. I gave the money to the front desk and I hope that the two girls will come back. If they don't perhaps I will get the money back or perhaps not. Regardless, I feel much better. I am off to see Budapest. Later!

Message #3 about this! When I returned to the hostel this afternoon, I spoke with the man at the front desk and the money was gone. After a bit of confusion, I learned that Stephen, a guy from Belfast who was in my room, had gotten the money and that it belonged to him. It must have fallen through a crack in his locker and into the locker that the Swedish girls had been using. Anyway, Stephen left 10 Euro and this note on my bed:
Elise,
Hope I spelt your name right. Thanks for handing in the money! (would've been screwed without it.) Please have a drink on me.
Have a great trip!
Stephen
Yay for doing the right thing :)
