DC can be a lovely place even in the worst of times
Tonight I was fortunate enough to drink a few beers with my dear friend Laura at the Wonderland. Laura and I only get to see each other once or twice a year, so I was very happy to introduce her to my favorite DC bar. We enjoyed the ambience, the food, and the drinks. She met my boyfriend and I met her friend from grad school. We all had a lovely time.
Tonight I was unfortunate enough to witness my car's check engine light turn on for the very first time. My '97 Subaru Impreza has been very good to me ever since I bought it in 2000. Hearing my car, my baby, making strange whirring sounds was heartbreaking. Luckily, I have a wonderful family. My stepmom reminded me that we have roadside assistance with Volvo. I called Volvo's assistance number and spoke to an incredibly nice woman named Susan. My dad helped me locate a repair shop while Susan called a tow truck. Then my dad did what few fathers would do for their 26-year-old daughters, I think. He drove down to Columbia Heights to help me even though it was close to midnight.
Tonight I was fortunate enough to be stuck at the Wonderland with good people while waiting for my father and a tow truck. When the tow truck arrived, the driver was logical, honest (unlike the tow truck dispatcher, who seemed a little shady), and totally not scary (I was musing in the bar about all those tow truck drivers who have peg legs and hooks).
Tonight I was unfortunate enough to make it to bed around 2 am even though I have to work tomorrow.
Tonight I was fortunate enough to have a potentially frustrating experience turn out surprisingly well. At times like these I love DC and, of course, my dad.
