National treasure

I've been carrying around a scrap of paper for nearly 9 months. My plan was to put the information on the scrap onto this here blog. What does the scrap of paper say?

"You are a national treasure."

My grandpa said that about me. Awwww shucks. That's awfully nice. :)

I found this in a personal ad and I LOVE it

More about what I'm looking for:
"Sometimes I get vertigo when I think back to things that happened 10 or 20 years ago - it's hard to believe I've been around so long and experienced so much. But there's so much more I want to learn, see and do before my time is up, and most of those things would be more fun if they were shared. To quote a friend, I want ONE person to be a witness to the rest of my life, because the record of my life until now is fragmented across dozens of people. Until recently, I don't think I was ready to find that person, but now I feel like I am."
~ Guy who wrote an awesome personal ad

Note to the guy who wrote the awesome personal ad:
I recognize that I don't know you and I have no right to post your words without your permission. Still, I did it and I don't regret it. I will, however, take them down if you wish or attribute them if you wish. What you said is awesome and I hope you find that one person. I hope I find that one person too.

Whoa is me

I shouldn't visit www.migmerg.com because it always reminds me that (1) it really doesn't take that much time to write a blog entry and I'm just being a slacker and (2) the writer, who shall remain nameless, really is funnier than me. Maybe I should just imitate Migmerg. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?

P.S. I am now officially back in the Washington, DC area. It's good to be back!

5 things I want to do with my life that don't involve other people

So I'm having a blah day. The weather is blah. My love life is blah. Having to deal with change is blah. Hearing about all the cool things that people younger than me are accomplishing is blah. Not being able to write anymore is also blah (and explains why I never seem to be posting on here).

All the above was bothering me when I started g-chatting with Neva, who had a brilliant idea: take Carolyn Hax's advice and write down the 5 things you want to do with your life that don't involve other people.

Here goes try number 1:
1) Help make a drastic improvement in public education
2) Travel to New Zealand and Australia
3) Learn how to cook
4) Retire early and travel
5) ...

P.S. One non-blah event from today: my roommate made homemade dumplings Yum!

P.P.S. Google "homemade." Weird...

You can't die!

From Cemetery full, mayor tells locals not to die:

In an ordinance posted in the council offices, Mayor Gerard Lalanne told the 260 residents of the village of Sarpourenx that "all persons not having a plot in the cemetery and wishing to be buried in Sarpourenx are forbidden from dying in the parish."

This is only a test

It just dawned on me that I am much better at updating my Facebook status than I am at updating my blog. Case in point:

Elise's Facebook Status Updates

Today
  • Elise is really enjoying her Wolfgang Puck soup in a can. Yummy! 12:49pm

  • Elise is done with DAO and now it's bedtime! 6:00am

  • Elise is finally starting her DAO exam. :). 1:51am
Yesterday
  • Elise has given up on Scrabulous and is off to watch Across the Universe instead of wriiting her papers. :). 9:27pm

  • Elise wishes she could play more Scrabulous... come on people, play your turn! :). 9:18pm

  • Elise actually got some work done. Time for bed! 6:15am

  • Elise cannot focus!!! Must do work! 2:01am

After coming to this conclusion, I had a brilliant idea. Why not just post my Facebook status updates to my blog?!?!?! Sadly, I could not figure out how to do this with ease. Fear not, dear readers, I have come up with a solution. I am also a Twitter user and Twitter is compatible with blogs. So, as a test, I have added a new feature. See that box on the right that says, "What am I up to right now? What am I thinking?"? That's it!

What do you think?

Kickboxing and yoga

Kickboxing and yoga seem pretty different, don't you think? I mean, it would be nuts if you stuck the two together, right? One is all violent and high impact and aerobic while the other is peaceful and low impact and not so aerobic. Well, I'm here to tell you that there are some crazy people at my gym who have combined kickboxing and yoga into one workout session. 1.5 hours of mellow, heartstopping, soothing, punch-your-brains-out fun... or at least it is to some people, but not this person. I think I like my kickboxing and yoga workouts separate (which is much different than how I like food since I often like to moosh all the things on my plate together so that I can experience all those yummy tastes at once). Next I'm going to a cycling and weights combo class. Hopefully that one will be better.

Sometimes I wish

that I had never turned on my laptop. Right now is one of those times. Why am I up at 3:42 am? No good reason. On the plus side, I just found Hello Kitty Hell. Did you know that there are Hello Kitty assault rifles?

The illusion of hope

Yesterday I had lunch with Al, who I hadn't seen since the summer. As we were catching up on the last six months, he struck on an interesting point: the illusion of hope. This came up while discussing relationships, a.k.a. my new favorite topic. The basic sentiment: had [insert boyfriend/girlfriend's name here] been more upfront about his/her feelings then I might have realized earlier that the relationship was going to end bad* and saved myself some misery. Had I known all the facts then I would not have been hopeful. The other person, by omission, was creating the illusion of hope.

Al points out that the illusion of hope does not just deal with relationships. He says, "now close your eyes and think about all the times you were hurt the most. and consider how 'illusion of hope' fits into that time. then you will see how it applies..."

Inspiration

Lynn has inspired me to write more often on my blog because her blog (migmerg) is actually getting comments and my blog only gets comments from time to time these days. That calls for more writing. Now the question is what should I write about. Let the writing begin!

An update of sorts

I know that I haven't been writing much. One second ago I realized just how little I've been updating the blog. There are still posts from August on the main page. The main page fits ten entries. That's ten posts in four months. Pathetic. Simply pathetic. In order to knock August off of the main page, I am now going to write an update of sorts.

What I've been up to for the last week
  • Sunday I went to class because sometimes I have class on Sundays. It's a good class so no need for pity.

  • Monday I went to class and then drove to D.C.

  • Tuesday I interviewed for a post-MBA job (hopefully, I did well... though I can never really tell with these things). Think it's too early to look for a job I don't want to start until August? Well, you're wrong. Business school should be renamed job-gettin' school. Some people, like me, are there for the learning. Most people are there to get a job.

  • Wednesday I did nothing. It is so nice to be able to do nothing.

  • Thursday I did almost nothing. I hung out with my family and ate good food (I even had a little bit of turkey).

  • Friday I did nothing until 6 pm when I went out to dinner with friends and then attended my 10-year high school reunion. Strange Times at Ridgemont High.

  • Saturday I did nothing until 6 pm when I met the family for dinner. Saturday is still happening for me even though it's technically Sunday. I've been spending the last few hours on the web and that has brought me to my poor, neglected blog.

Sunday after I get some sleep is when nothing will be replaced by something. It's been great doing nothing. I'm not sure I'm ready to go back to my productive life. Unfortunately, I don't have a choice. Classes, clubs, and recruiting wait for no woman. Good night.
